Sasol, the synthetic oil company created by the South African government to avoid the oil embargo mounted agains the apartheid regime, expanded to the United States after the fall of apartheid. One of their facilities is in Mossville Louisiana, an historically black community founded by freed enslaved persons, and one of the oldest black communities in the country. Sasol, with the blessing of the Louisiana government, has turned Mossville into a construction zone, lying to the people of Mossville in order to get them to sell their land. Mossville Environmental Action Now (MEAN) has been organizing for 30 years to hold the oil and chemical industries that surround their community accountable for the environmental toxins that have poisoned their land, water, and bodies. Now they are holding Sasol accountable for breaking their promises and destroying the culture and heritage of this important community.
Join us at Sasol's North American Headquarters in Houston Texas to demand Sasol, be held accountable to the people of Mossville.
